Food Swings in Brooklyn →
Had dinner here after catching a film screening last night. Definitely a winner. And good thing, since my favorite place, Curly’s Lunch, has been sold and renamed (though for the record, the original owners of Curly’s still own Hotel Tortuga down the street!).

vegansaurus!: Vegan Hacker Tuesday night! Bake... →
vegansaurus: Is anyone signed up for this event? It looks like fun but I cannot go, as I am the self proclaimed Twinkie Queen of San Francisco — it simply would not be fair to the other ‘hackers’! If it’s your first time hearing of Vegan Hacker, let me give you the low-down. You hack recipes in… This is pretty cool.

The Vegan Diner: If everyone went vegetarian just... →
thevegandiner: 100 billion gallons of water, enough to supply all the homes in New England for almost 4 months; 1.5 billion pounds of crops otherwise fed to livestock, enough to feed the state of New Mexico for more than a year; 70 million gallons of gas — enough to fuel all the cars of Canada and Mexico…

vegansaurus!: NYC is maybe getting a vegan grocery... →
vegansaurus: As you may have heard, New York City is getting mighty close to having its very own vegan convenience store. The brainchild of Eric Hopf, the aptly named Vegan Bodega is currently in its early stages of development, with an IndieGoGo page up for community fundraising and awareness…. Awesome!

Is it time we all gave up meat? →
headphonesnotrequired: The two most pressing reasons for cutting back on meat today are climate change and global population growth. The post-war years have seen an explosion in the numbers of animals intensively reared for meat and milk. This livestock revolution, and the change in land use that has gone with it, however, now contribute nearly one fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions. ...

"Grilled" tofu & pineapple
The other night my roommates and I made dinner, including “grilled” tofu & pineapple. I really had no idea what I was doing, just a vague idea of what I wanted, but it turned out pretty good. 1 packet firm tofu, drained and pressed (a couple of paper towels above and below with a little additional weight on top for about 30 minutes) 1-2 cups bite sized pineapple (no juice -...

I wish I had a grill...
I had dinner with some friends last night that have a grill. Grilled corn on the cob, eggplant, portobello mushrooms (with garlic and balsamic), and a salad with grilled peaches and candied nuts. With strawberries, raspberries, and vegan whipped cream for dessert. It was amazing, to say the least. If you have a grill, take advantage of it. And take advantage of your farmer’s markets, too.

UN Urges a Vegan Diet To Feed A Growing Population →
mohandasgandhi: A recent report released by the United Nations found that the rate in which other cultures are moving toward a Western diet that’s heavy on both meat and dairy is simply unsustainable. The UN also proclaimed that diet was one of the largest contributors to fossil fuel consumption. With the global population surging to a predicted 9.1 billion by 2050, a vegan diet will be a...
